This position will work with individuals and units across the College to enhance and encourage the development of the spiritual lives of students, promote the understanding of spiritual and religious practices and traditions, and provide holistic support to students, faculty, and staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Effective Public Presence

Serve as the public voice of religious and spiritual life in Wiley ceremonies, convocations, celebrations, vigils, and memorials, that call for spiritual leadership.
Represent the dimensions of religious life and spirituality across the College.
Serve as an ambassador for the religious and spiritual dimensions of Wiley College to the external community, including professional and denominational organizations, local religious congregations, and groups that may have interest in religious work at the College.

Foster Interfaith Engagement & Collaborative Partnerships

Strengthen vibrant and formative interfaith dynamics with key partners.
Promote overall religious literacy, interfaith education, understanding and dialogue.
Foster a safe space for a wide range of religious formation arising from and consonant with the College’s values of inclusiveness, free inquiry, mutual respect and interfaith engagement.
Continue collaborative work with groups and units with long-standing ties, and leaders of other established religious groups and leaders, to serve the College.

Pastoral Care

Provide pastoral care including counseling, spiritual direction, and grief
support to the community at times of personal or community crisis or loss.
Work in collaboration with other College students, faculty and staff
resources to counsel and/or coordinate care for individual community
members in need of support.
Preside or provide for a variety of regular services in chapel.
Oversee use of the College’s chapel, ensuring the availability of safe space for a wide array of religious expression.
Supervise and coordinate the work of the religious life staff including
adjudicating requests by religious groups to be involved on Wiley’s campus.
The successful application will have a master’s degree in religion, theology, or other relevant areas is required, Doctorate degree preferred. Seven years of experience in chaplaincy, higher education, or related field. Appropriate ordination or equivalent credentials, as relevant. Liturgical skills or competence in the practice of public speaking and knowledge of religious rituals and practices are paramount. Exceptional communication skills and ability to forge relationships with a wide range of individuals. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively to generate and cultivate meaningful and durable interfaith partnerships. Meaningful involvement with traditions and communities around the world. Strong liturgical skills. Pastoral sensitivity and experience with crisis management. Skills to advance Wiley’s commitment to religious diversity, freedom of expression, and openness to dialogue with all faith traditions. Experience working with students and the higher education environment.

Responsibilities:
• Plan and implement opportunities for spiritual practice and spiritual development of students and foster faith communities among students to include: coordinate ecumenical worship and prayer opportunities; provide opportunities for spiritual development through retreats, small groups, and reflection experiences; and be available to meet with individual students who wish to discuss matters of spiritual life and values.
• Along with Campus Ministry Team, provide leadership, vision and direction for Campus Ministry.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience in a ministry position; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Must understand and value Catholic teaching and practices, and have knowledge of mainline Protestant and non-denominational traditions.
• Ability to work well with students of diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds, including students who do not affiliate with religious and/or spiritual traditions.
• Ability to enliven concern and enthusiasm within college community for our Catholic Benedictine heritage and values.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills required.
• Ability and willingness to make presentations; e.g. presiding/preaching at prayer services, classrooms, workshops, orientations.

Job Description:

Primary responsibilities include:

● Strengthen campus/community relation by connecting students and local congregations and providing opportunities for service and advocacy in collaboration with the Schenectady faith community.
● Provide opportunities for students and others to reflect on meaningful experiences and engage in meaningful conversations.
● Offer care and support for students and student communities.
​Background: Campus Protestant Ministries has served the Union College community since 1981. CPM is an independent charitable religious organization that is spiritually and financially supported by local churches, denominational bodies, and individuals. It is governed by a board of directors that includes local church representatives as well as Union faculty and alumni.
Responsibilities: The Campus Minister, under guidance from the Board, directs the life and programs of the ministry. He/she provides pastoral counseling, leads programs and events, coaches student leaders, and sustains community life to support students at Union.
Specific responsibilities include:
Work with students (60%):
1) Accompany students exploring questions of justice, service, equity and spirituality. Student engagement may look like personal pastoral counseling and support, in crisis as well as in vocational exploration, spiritual growth, and community service efforts. Or it may look like “showing up” to support students finding their way to challenge questions of justice, equity, racism, and peace, on campus, in community and in national life.
2) Initiate and lead or guide students in leading events and gatherings to support faith formation and exploration including study groups, retreats, speaker events, service projects and interfaith groups and discussions. Through these programs, aspire to stimulate spiritual exploration and commitment to ministry and service.
3) Reach out to and serve students of all religious and non-religious backgrounds without trying to “convert” them to a particular theology. Make a special effort to contact students who are from church denominations represented by CPM and those who are drawn to a progressive Christian witness.
Work with the CPM Board and our supporters (30%):
4) Attend CPM Board meetings and work closely with its officers and committees. Actively give the Board direction, provide activity plans and reports to the Board, and help it recruit and keep Board members.
5) Make regular appearances and presentations in local churches and judicatories that support CPM, targeting once monthly.
6) Maintain good personal communication with donors and CPM supporters and churches through newsletters, mailings, etc. Write grants and funding applications as appropriate. Participate in regional and national campus ministry-related professional groups as appropriate.
7) Serve as the executive director of the CPM organization. Work with the Board treasurer to prepare budgets and keep financial records and with the Board as a whole to maintain files and records of the organization. Maintain mailing lists for the organization and build personal relationships with donors. Facilitate the distribution of direct mail appeals to current and prospective donors.
Work with Union College (10%):
8) Bring imagination and perseverance to successfully navigate the challenges of campus bureaucratic protocols. Attend Office of Religious and Spiritual Life gatherings and work closely with other campus ministries in doing cooperative programming.
Qualifications:
1) Orientation toward a progressive Christian theology.
2) Graduate theological training recommended. Prefer candidate who is ordained or ordainable.
3) Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to needs and issues of university students.
4) Independent and self-motivated work style. The campus minister, as the only employee, is the one who makes the CPM program a success.
5) Experience working on a diverse college or university campus or in a similar educational context.
6) Demonstrated experience in teaching and preaching to young adult populations.
7) Training and experience in pastoral counseling, spiritual discernment and/or vocational exploration.
8) Strong and organized administrator (critical skills include: communications, board relations and recruitment, church relations, newsletter publication, and grant writing).
9) Willingness and ability to work with other campus religious and social change organizations.

Description of Ministry Partnership: First UMC Belton is an established United Methodist congregation serving the larger Belton/Temple community. Part of the current ministry of First UMC Belton is a weekly lunch serving an average of 250 college students from the nearby campus of the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. The creation of this new position arises out of prayerful, intentional conversation between church leadership at First UMC Belton and representatives of the Central Texas Conference.          
Position Description: The Associate Pastor/Campus Minister will serve on both the pastoral staff of First UMC Belton and as the recognized United Methodist campus minister at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. This person will provide leadership in the development of ministry with students on campus at UMHB. This person will also serve as the lead pastor in the launch and development of a new faith community anchored in a new worship service within First UMC Belton. Responsibilities for this position include leadership and care for both the new faith community (preaching, pastoral care, and worship leadership) and the college student community (reaching, discipling, and mentoring students).
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A servant leader called to ministry with young adults and college students who possesses gifts of relationship-building, organizational leadership, student discipleship, and preaching and worship leadership. Must have a passion for young adults and reaching new people for Christ.
  • Prior ministry experience working with college students and/or young adults.
  • Bachelors degree, pursuing theological studies, and licensed or otherwise credentialed within the United Methodist Church or another Wesleyan theological tradition.

Desired Qualifications:
  • An ordained elder in the United Methodist church.
  • An MDiv from a United Methodist accredited seminary.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading a campus ministry and/or serving on pastoral staff in a local church.
  • Prior experience developing new ministries.
  • Strong preaching gifts and creative, visionary leader.
  • Both a self-starter and team player.

The full-time campus minister for Marycrest Hall, a residential community of 900 first year students, is part of the Residence Life Ministry team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversee students and assist them with developing materials for Scripture sharing groups and prayer experiences.

  • Be available to meet with individual students who wish to discuss matters of personal faith and values.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with planning activities that foster a spirit of community among students, faculty & staff.
  • Serve as an advisor for the campus ministry student organization.
  • Compile annual reports on student participation in Campus Ministry activities.
  • All other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Ability to develop and sustain effective professional relationships.
  • Teamwork orientation.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Desire to be actively involved with the campus community.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A practicing Roman Catholic, or possessing a high level of knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic faith.
  • Respect for and understanding of other faith traditions and beliefs.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Pastoral experience or experience in coordinating service opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY
It is the responsibility of this position to create, implement, and maintain a vision for the Office of Campus Ministry that reflects and promotes the University’s core values as a Catholic Benedictine institution. The director will provide strong leadership with solid rooting in the Roman Catholic faith while also exemplifying ecumenical and interfaith competency. This position works collaboratively with all members of the University community, especially with the monastic community, the Office of Student Affairs, faculty, and the Benedictine Institute offering intellectual and pastoral leadership. This position reports to the Dean of Students and works with the Abbot of Saint Martin's Abbey to ensure pastoral care of all members of the University community.

Saint Martin’s University is an independent four-year, Catholic, coeducational university located on a 380-acre wooded campus in Lacey, Washington. Established in 1895 by the Catholic Order of Saint Benedict, the University is one of 18 Benedictine colleges and universities in the United States and Canada and the only one west of the Rocky Mountains. Saint Martin’s University prepares students for successful lives through all its majors and graduate programs spanning the liberal arts, business, education, and engineering.
