NCMA Conferences
Since 1964 NCMA has held an annual conference aimed at empowering professionals in the field of ministry in higher education.
Our conference is moving virtual! We will be meeting August 2, 2023 from 11am-5pm eastern.
Crucial Conversations: Navigating Polarization on American College Campuses.
Today's faith leaders now face new challenges as they seek to navigate today’s fault lines. This is especially true for campus ministers having to navigate the polarized space of college campuses. With data showing us that college students are less likely to want to room with someone of a different political persuasion or go to school in a state where the dominant political milieu differs from their own sensibilities. How can we as leaders advocate to change the negative narratives and build unity within our communities in times of division?
Join us for this day long workshop as we explore leadership in divided times. We will begin with big questions like “What does science have to teach us about why we are so divided?” and move to pointed and practical questions like “How can two people have a real conversation about their disagreements?” Our hope is that we can start building a society that is more resilient to toxic forms of division and ready to address problems in our local context.
Our facilitator for this event is Kevin Mcintosh from the One America Movement. We are excited to hear from them about their work and how we can further conversations on college campuses around the country. Check out their info here
Kevin McIntosh is a community builder and loves making new connections. At the One America Movement, he serves as the Faith Over Division Senior Manager, helping to lead the design and implementation of our movement-building work in which light-touch programming and easy-to-use resources are delivered to a broad range of people across the country.
He earned his B.A. in Religious Studies and History from Emory University and his Master's of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School.
Prior to joining the One America Movement, Kevin served as the coordinator of Campus Interfaith Resources at Grand Valley State University. In his free time, Kevin enjoys watching the Tampa Bay Rays, struggling with crosswords, and going for runs.
