Keynote Speaker: Rev. Dr. Paula Owens Parker
Rev. Dr. Owens Parker is a Presbyterian minister, adjunct professor, and interim director of the Katie Geneva Cannon Center for Womanist Leadership (KGCCWL) at Union Presbyterian Seminary. The KGCCWL is a program for women of the African Diaspora to “do the work their soul must have”* through a womanist lens, in education, research, and community engagement. She is also the senior program developer of Roots Matter LLC, a program which identifies ways to heal generational trauma in families and communities. She was the former executive director of the Daughters of Zelophehad, a transitional housing program for women and children in crisis.
Dr. Parker received her Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo, California and her Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond Virginia. She received training in the School of Healing Prayer from Christian Healing Ministries Jacksonville, Florida, Pecos Benedictine Monastery School of Spiritual Direction, Pecos New Mexico, and the Coming To The Table leadership program at the Center for Justice & Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Virginia. She is a certified facilitator of Emotional Emancipation Circles of Community Healing Network, New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Parker is the author of Roots Matter: Healing History, Honoring Heritage, Renewing Hope (2016). She has contributed to Christian Century and Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology and co-authored the chapter “Internal Liberation” in Kaleidoscope: Broadening the Palette in the Art of Spiritual Direction.
