University Chaplain Open Position
Frostburg State University Chaplain’s office is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 academic year for the position of Campus Minister. Frostburg State University is a medium size University tucked into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland. While the University is in a rural setting, our campus population is diverse.
The Chaplain’s Office primarily provides leadership for United Campus Ministry groups which is a Christian ecumenical student organization; however, the chaplain also provides pastoral care to the entire University community, offering counsel, support, and encouragement to individuals as well as support to inter-religious and interfaith activities. About the Position
This is a full-time position and successful candidates will:
Work with student worship team to plan, conduct, and oversee chapel experiences.
Provide empathic pastoral care.
Engage and work effectively with young adults in a cocurricular setting in such activities as Bible studies, counseling, mentoring, and workshops.
Practice the highest standards of professional and personal ethics.
Possess skills in reaching out to students, faculty, and staff to inspire spiritual growth, social concerns, and discipling new faith commitments.
Reach out to community clergy and groups to support and partner with UCM to provide a faith presence on Campus.
Report to and communicates well with the Vice President of Student Affairs, United Campus Ministry Governing Board, and the Bishop’s office of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. This ecumenical role does not require clergy to be United Methodist, see following requirements.
Be available to start August 2022.
Understand the physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A qualified individual is a person who meets skill, experience, education, or other requirements of the position, and who can perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Work includes regular evening and weekend availability. Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal. May be required to travel to other buildings on or off campus.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master of Divinity or similar seminary degree required.
Experience: One year of relevant experience working with young adults.
Ordination and endorsement Candidates must possess ecclesiastical endorsement from the official endorsing agency of the Chaplains faith or denomination at the time of appointment and maintain such endorsement for the duration of their employment. UCM is an ecumenical organization thus we welcome applicants from various Christian faith communities. Candidates who are a Deacon or Elder in process of ordination will be considered.
Must be proficient in office productivity, communication, and organizational applications and machines.
